Intended Learning Outcomes

    After completing the module, students should be able to:
    1. understand the possible malpractices in elections;
    2. acquire basic knowledge about the laws and regulations governing clean elections and understand the importance of upholding clean elections; and
    3. express views on the degree of fairness and probity of elections in Hong Kong.

Warm-up activities

  • Play an API on clean elections to stimulate students’ thoughts on the importance of clean and fair elections.

(i)     Analysis of Election Scenarios

  • Group discussion and presentation: let students explore their level of acceptance towards the acts in the scenarios and the reasons behind.
  • Guide students to think about the importance of upholding clean elections.

  • Ask students to express their views on the degree of fairness and probity of elections in Hong Kong with reference to the information from an opinion survey.

Conclusion

  • Electoral malpractices would impair the fairness of elections and bring great damage to Hong Kong’s social development.  Students are encouraged to act with integrity in the elections at schools and build a culture of fair and clean elections.

  • Extended activity: ask students to collect information, give presentation and discuss the effective ways of upholding clean elections in Hong Kong.
